A food company is recalling one of its products after it was discovered it contained a major allergen that had not been labeled.
Fairmont Foods, Inc., based in Fairmont, Minnesota, has issued a recall for approximately 147,132 pounds of frozen spaghetti loops with meat sauce entrée products, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced. The recall is the result of misbranding and the failure to declare egg, a known allergen, on the product label.
The affected products, identified as "kidfresh Spaghetti Loops Meat Sauce," were produced on various dates between December 2022 and August 2023. The products were distributed and sold in Georgia, Indiana and Texas.

Consumers are urged to check for the following specific details on packaging:
- 7.25-oz. tray in-box packages
- Lot codes FF120722, FF011823, FF021623, FF032323, FF042623, FF071923, or FF081023
- "Best if used by" date ranging from April 2024 to December 2024 on the side of the box.
- The recalled items bear the number "EST. 2WM" on the side of the box, below the "best if used by" date.
The issue came to light during a routine ingredient label review. It was discovered that the finished product label did not properly declare egg as an ingredient, despite it being a known allergen. The problem arose following a change in noodle formulation by the supplier.
The recall comes after a customer with an egg allergy reported having an adverse reaction after consuming the product, according to an announcement made by the Food Safety and Inspection Service. Anyone who suspects they may have experienced an adverse reaction after consuming the product should seek medical attention as soon as possible.

— USDA Food Safety & Inspection Service (@USDAFoodSafety) November 2, 2023Egg is one of nine major allergens defined by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) under the Consumer Protection Act 2004. This law defines the following foods as major food allergens: milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, sesame and soybeans.
The FSIS said it is concerned that some of the affected product may still be in consumers' freezers. The company advises consumers who have purchased these products not to consume them and instead discard them or return them to the place where they were purchased.
The FSIS said it will conduct recall effectiveness checks to ensure that the recalling firm notifies their customers of the recall and takes the necessary steps to remove the product from consumer access. The retail distribution lists, when available, will be posted on the FSIS website.
