Ex-WWE star Tom Zenk who was part of popular Can-Am Connection dies aged 59

FORMER wrestling star Tom Zenk passed away at 59 years old on Saturday, his family has confirmed.

He was infamous in the community for his tag team partnership with Rick Martel - called The Can-Am Connection.

A big milestone in his career came at Wrestlemania III in March 1987, when Can-Am defeated duo Magnificent Muraco and Bob Orton.

They were in line to compete for the World Tag Team Championships - which would have sealed his name in the history books.

But Zenk left his duo marooned after financial troubles with the wrestling board saw him quit the WWF later in the year.

He then joined rivals WCW in 1989 after a brief stint wrestling across the world in All Japan Pro Wrestling and the AWA.

An obituary confirmed Zenk had passed away on Saturday at the North Memorial Medical Centre in Minnesota.

Pro wrestlers have been posting their tributes to Zenk on social media - a popular character in the wrestling world.

Legend Teddy Long wrote on Twitter: "Just wanted to say may God Bless The Tom Zenk Family Tom was a very close Friend of mine RiP playa."
